Day in the life of a Project Worker

We sat down with one of our Project Workers, Elise, to get her first-hand insights into working in the Young Person’s Service. Read on to her discover what a typical day at work looks like and hear about what she loves most about working at Catalyst.

Tell us a bit about yourself

I’ve been working for Catalyst for four years. I used to have a family member who worked within the Young Persons Service. They told me that they really enjoyed watching young people thrive, grow and succeed into living independently. That really inspired me into wanting to be part of that process.

What does a typical day at work look like?

A typical day involves support plan sessions. Support plans are always person-centred and they provide easy steps to help young people achieve their goals.

We contact every young person at our scheme daily to see if they are okay. We’re alert to any safeguarding concerns involving our young people.

We work with our residents to help them manage their needs. This varies from financial support, emotional wellbeing, substance misuse, self harm, and anger management.

We support our residents to manage their rent and budgeting, so we liaise with housing benefit, universal credit, and other benefit departments.

What other responsibilities do you have?

Other responsibilities as a Project Worker involve maintaining the presentation of the scheme. This includes cleaning and keeping our information boards up to date and relevant. We also provide a range of activities for the young people to join in and meet other residents, such as bingo and movie nights.

We like to promote independent living skills to get our residents ready for when they move on from the schemes into independent living. We run an AQA programme to help the young people gain independence.

What would you like to say about your experience at Catalyst so far?

The best part of working for Catalyst is that no two days are the same. I enjoy working in a vibrant building surrounded by lovely team members. My experience with Catalyst has always been positive. The business provides good benefits for colleagues, such as Health Shield, benefits contributions and a cycle to work scheme. It’s a great, supportive company to work for.
